The hotel is ideally located in the heart of Amsterdam's historic centre, just a stone's throw from the key financial institutions, the famous Dam Square and thirty minutes from Schiphol International Airport.

Uniquely bordered front and back by two canals, the buildings housing the exclusive Grand Amsterdam Sofitel Hotel have been at the heart of the city life for over six centuries. The spacious lobby and lounge convey a traditional but warm ambience with burgundy colours, flower patterns and authentic English furniture. The guestrooms vary slightly in size from medium to large in order to respect the layout of the original buildings. High ceilings and huge windows are features of almost all the rooms, giving an additional sense of light and space to what are already some of the largest accommodations in Amsterdam. Decorated by Monique Roux in a chic Anglo-French style, they display salmon or blue tones with bold stripes or floral prints. Each room also has beautiful heavy drapery with custom-made light wood inlaid furniture. Roger & Gallet products are gathered together on the black marble vanities in the hotel's chic, bold, black and white Art Deco bathrooms. The hotel’s "Cafe Roux", overseen by the world famous Albert Roux, is a brasserie style restaurant offering excellent cuisine at reasonable prices. There is also a lovely garden where one can have lunch and dinner or drinks, weather permitting.

Comment
The staff went of their way to make us comfortable throught our stay.
The hotel is under rennovation and will be complete in March 2010 but this is not a problem
Top Tip
Take tours through local companies.
Make sure to bring warm clothes and an umbrella. The hotel does provide one but it is always nice to have an extra.

Great hotel, managed to get an upgrade to a junior suite as it was my birthday.
Service was first class at all times and the breakfast was one of the best yet.
