The Hotel Die Port van Cleve opened in 1870 and is housed in a traditional building consisting of numerous old townhouses. Its name refers to the previous building on the same spot, dating from 1592, in which Heineken brewed his first beer. The original interior, with its oak frame and blue Delft tiles is still intact. The lobby is small but welcoming with a small seating area.
The hotel is located in the centre of Amsterdam, next to the Magna Plaza shopping centre which used to be the old post office. It is also within easy walking distance of Dam Square and the Royal Palace.
